I used to be a total fan of this place. I thought they had the best Oregon Roll in town. They had that nice quaint and cozy feel to and they made you feel welcomed. A nice clean place with white table clothes, flowers, a warm moist towel to clean your hands and sometimes even a small dish of edamame to get you started. Well I don't know what changed but the last time I went there I walked out after having waited through an entire big bottle of Sapporo because they hadn't even gotten around to making even one of my Nigiri. I thought there was a rule that if there were so many orders placed they would divvy up a few of the orders to get at least a plate out to everyone's order even the last order in line. The guys making the sushi were just chit chatting with each other while they made the orders painfully slow while there were maybe five or six parties all slowly getting their full orders all at once. I just wanted a piece of fish to nibble on man. I was really hungry and the waitresses could tell I was getting impatient and they seemed helpless to help me out so I politely asked her to cancel my order, I paid for my beer and headed downtown to Sushi Takahashi and I pigged out with the coolest people the best service and always the best tunes to rock your sushi to. I felt so much happier when I had some fish to eat. You know I've been to the Takahashi many times before but never have reviewed them because I just figured my review would get lost in all the others. So consider this my review for them now! I give them 5 stars Yo! Sure it's a bit on the seedy side but truth be told they have great service, food and prices! BTW I haven't been back to Umi since which is a shame because I really did like them when they first started out but like I said something changed and I don't see myself going back there. I'm not bitter about I just choose to get my raw fish on elsewhere now.

This is our neighborhood sushi place. We eat there twice a month. The dining area is small, and occasionally a bit crowded, but the food is excellent. The service can be slow, so we plan ahead. Despite the speed of service, it is always friendly. The food is always well presented, and fresh. Despite what other reviewers have said, the price is outstanding. My partner and I leave full, happy, and generally about 30 dollars lighter. A sushi meal with at least one beer for 30 bucks is pretty good in my book!

I had no trouble with service here. The waitress was attentive and made sure my group was taken care of multiple times, I could see them being a bit slower if the place had been packed so maybe that is where all the 'slow service' reviews are coming from? We had the dragon roll and rainbow roll. All the food we had was fairly good, nothing too unbelievable but nothing was bad or boring either.

I checked Yelp before heading to Umi. Oh, four stars. I ordered the dragon rolls, yakitori chicken and spicy ramen. First came the dragon rolls. Its quality and taste quite fitted my four-star expectation. Second was the yakitori chicken. Since that moment, I knew something would be wrong. Yakitori means grilled bird in Japanese and I know what Yakitori would be like and the Umi yakitori was too different to carry the name yakitori. However, its taste was still ok. The last was the spicy ramen. The worst thing finally happened. The reason why I called it worst was partly because the noodle was not ramen. It was also because I recognized the noodle ---- Non Shim shin instant ramyun, half dozen of which were lying quietly in my kitchen closet. That's it, the deal breaker. I'm sure I would never come back. The two stars are for sushi. If you really want to try it, just sushi. Sushi may be fine. But definitely no other stuffs.

There are some places that I am not sure I should talk about, not because they are bad, but because they are so good. It's these little places that I want to keep all to myself. But in these times, it is important not to be selfish. It is important to share. So, in an effort to be more altruistic, I am here to tell you about a little sushi place in the suburbs. I can honestly say that I crave Umi Sushi. I can't think of another sushi bar I would rather frequent. I don't care that this sushi bar is in a strip mall in the suburbs. In fact, that may be one of the reasons I love this place. I like that when we walk in, they remember us (and just about everyone else who sits at the sushi bar) no matter how long we have been away. Umi Sushi is not pretentious. The place is clean. The service is excellent. The sushi is fresh with a capital F. It is beautifully presented (almost too pretty to eat), and it tastes fantastic (more spicy sauce please!). There is also a full menu of non-sushi dishes to encourage your non-fish-favoring dining partners to join you in your trek to the 'burbs. Most of all, Umi Sushi is not overpriced. We have all been there, the overpriced, hoity-toity sushi places that leave us feeling inadequate, hungry, and too light in the wallet. Umi Sushi is not this place. But don't just take my word for it, go check it out yourself. But please, save a spot for me at the sushi bar. It's the least you can do in the name of altruism!

Hiro left his old restaurant and started Hiroshi in the Pearl. The old Hiro restaurant was taken over and reformed by Hiro's previously second in command and it is well worth discovering this remade sushi spot. Hiro always had fantastic fresh fish and now Umi has continued that tradition. From mouth watering Toro to a buttery Buri Belly (or wild yellow tail belly) the fish is fantastic. The rolls are better and more varried. The seared tuna specials have taken a bit of Hiro's influence and then taken on a life of their own. They have some great lunch specials too. I have eaten here many times and though it can be busy at lunch during the week it is more so but nights can be much more quiet. The staff is friendly and efficent, the sushi chefs are well worth knowing and keep things light and lively. The best part is that the prices here are quite reasonable (though toro is steep) especially considering how good everything is. Do your sushi loving self a favor and stop by and check it out. Oh and yes it is in a strip mall but don't be put off by it.

Great service, decent sushi. CLEAN = Best asset when you run a sushi restaurant. Good prices and selection. Wish their seaweed salad had more seaweed and less cucumber :) .

  • Ed N.

very disappointed in the food and value. The service was good. 1. don't order the spicy hamachi hand roll. The spice was provided by pickled jalapenos, and the vinegar flavor of these overpowers the flavor. 2. nigiri we received with mixed reviews, the fresh salmon was good, and cuts were generous, but the yellow tail cuts we incredibly thin. 3. the spicy tuna roll is priced at 7.95, but it is meager.. 4. Stay away from wine: They served glasses of wine with about 2.5 ounces.

  • Lisa B.

Very satisfied and impressed with the quality and presentation of the sashimi - fish melted in your mouth. One of the best seaweed salads I've ever had. Ordered to go so I am unable to comment on the service or atmosphere. Highly recommend and would definitely visit again.

We tried Umi Sushi for the first time and was impressed. We sat at the sushi bar and watched our rolls being prepared. All of the fish is displayed in a refrigerated case at the bar and looks so fresh. We ordered the Oregon Roll, Tempura Shrimp Roll, Spicy Tuna (not so spicy), and the tempura appetizer. The tempura was excellent, with a nice variety of shrimp and veggies, including an onion ring and winter squash slice. The sushi was served on chilled rectangular plates, which kept the rolls fresh, and made a great presentation. I will definitely go to Umi Sushi again, especially for early bird prices. If you are planning a birthday party dinner, give them a call 24 hours ahead and you can receive 30% off food and drinks!

  • Jason B.

Very decent quantity and quality for the price. I don't get all fussy with sauces. Straight up fish and theirs is trustworthy. People need to relax about perfect service. This is a family run type place and the owner is often there working his butt off from what I can tell. If you want to be mind blown, pick a more expensive place.

  • Laura W.

I am sad to rate this nice place that tries hard low when I had one of the best seaweed salads of my life there. I loved that they used cucumber and surimi with it. They got the flavors just right. The tuna in miso was also great though heavy on the sauce. I loved that they used good quality tuna instead of chopping the leftovers. The eel and avocado roll had a nice crunch rolled in panko, but the sauce they used was a little thin and sweet. Good, but not a favorite version of this good roll. The severe disappointment came with the fish. The hamachi was just slightly strong and fishy tasting instead of having its usual buttery quality, though it may have just been what was available. What rated it the low stars was the Uni (sea urchin) which was served frankly bad. This is a tricky thing and a good sushi chef should never serve it if it is too old. I had gone once before and felt it was a very good 3+ stars, but they should never be serving sub-par fish on a Saturday night. I might try one time again in case they had an off night.

I'm a sushi nazi! If you like fresh sashimi, yellowtail and the salmon is to die for here. I've been going here for about a year, at least a couple times per month, almost weekly, and I have never been disappointed. Love this little sushi family joint. Friendly staff, and the owner surprises me with special rolls all the time.

  • Troy W.

Great little place with excellent sushi and a good price. The combo bento with chicken teriyaki and sushi was very good. The rice was perfect (I am picky) and the miso soup was great. I will be back to try some other options from the small but tasty menu.

This is probably our last choice for sushi in this area. We have never had a bad experience or terrible food, but it really doesn't have anything to entice us back, like high quality fish, some amazing rolls or on the other end of the spectrum, insane deals. On our last visit we had the white tuna, spicy yellowtail, rock n roll with eel, smoked salmon and avocado, the rainbow roll, and the R.O.T. roll. The R.O.T. roll was definitely the best of the group. None of it was especially memorable. What was memorable about this place was I felt like I was going to get frostbite it was so cold in there. I thought for sure my fingers would be frozen in chopstick position forever, which would be okay for the most part except I do have to type every so often. The moral of the story is that it's fine if you are in the area, but the price is definitely on the high side for what you are getting. If you do decide to pay them a visit, try to make it for happy hour and for better, snappier service, sit at the bar. And don't forget your jacket and gloves!

This place is good! It is not my favorite sushi restaurant. But if I want sushi & I'm in the area I will eat here. They seem to love wasabi! It appeared in rolls I'm not used to. And I can taste a vinegar flavor in the rice. But it was definitely good!

Let's get right down to it, as someone who does not promote eating fake I was not impressed with Umi sushi. Even armed with a Groupon and welcoming their 30% discounted rolls we were left dissatisfied by our experience. Overall I think focusing on imaginative food, quality and service would be better options than offering discounts on an inferior product. I was suspicious after looking over the menu as I thought it read rather simplistic which is not necessarily a fault because sushi shouldn't be overcomplicated. However its plain Jane linguistics actually spoke a different language once presented on your plate. If you like to guess what you're eating that will be satisfied too as your waitress either won't tell you or stare blankly when asked to identify the food. I did feel sorry for her as she ran around the room like she was in a 400M relay but she still could have taken 5 seconds to identify our rolls. Sadly we were left to decode them on our own before she sprinted off as if fired out of a cannon. I'm also very concerned about their obsession with imitation crab. First it read like a condiment all over the menu, even our seaweed salad came topped with it. I was hesitant to order more water because I feared it might come out garnished with the goddam stuff! Really all I kept asking myself was am I enjoying any of this? My answer was realized faster than the 5 laps she could muster. Listen if you're a fan of fake crustaceans you'll probably love this place, I on the other hand have a little higher expectations, especially when it comes to dead fish.

First of all, I haven't had any problems with service on any of the numerous occasions that I have been here. Even though they seem to be a bit short-staffed, even on busy evenings my table has always been taken care of adequately. Now, for the food. This isn't the best sushi, but its definitely more than edible. The rolls aren't innovative or trendy or creative, but there are a sure-fire delicious. Eel is the best, I've also had luck with many of the specialty rolls. The prices are fine, and often they have specials. Usually, we get this food as take-out for a lazy dinner at home, which I would recommend over eating in the restuarant, simply because they restaurant isn't anything to write home about in terms of ambiance, and at home you don't have to wear pants and can watch your own TV. Like a said, it makes a good lazy dinner.

The bloom's off the rose on this place, after a half-dozen visits. It's not bad, it's just nothing special. My favorite item on the menu is still the sunomono salad with shrimp & octopus. It's huge(even the "small" one), tasty, and healthy. The nigiri is kinda hit or miss, though.

  • Jennifer L.

The service is slow and they cram as many tables as they can in there. The food is decent enough, but there's nothin special about it. I really hate places that don't have refillable sodas either - cheap.

Who knew that THE sushi place I have been in search of ever since moving to Oregon 7 months ago was right next door to my favorite Thai restaurant, Thai Basil, all along!? Go figure. My daughter and I have been to Thai Basil probably a dozen times and we've taken guests there when they visit from California. And I've read about Umi Sushi and wanted to try it...but it took until this very night for me to finally do it. And am I glad I did. The fish was fresh. The serving sizes were perfect (substantial but not too big). Not a huge variety, but enough to keep you coming back and trying different varieties for quite some time. Clean, contemporary restaurant. Friendly service. I am FINALLY satisfied fully with sushi in Oregon. Thank you, Umi Sushi. goumisushi.com/menu_02_0…

I am a big sushi fan and I am not a fan of the track sushi places, so I go to Umi Sushi. This is my go to sushi place in the area. They have wonderful sushi here that they make fresh for you as you order. I love any kind of sushi with unagi (eel), and their dragon rolls and rock and roll's are amazing here. Excellent service and premium sushi, highly recommended. Do not cheap out on their rolls, they have several rolls that are cheaper and 30% off, some of these are good, but please do try their specialty rolls, you will not be disappointed.

I was very generous with my last review, mostly because the sushi was really good. We'd intended to eat lunch there, but it took 50 minutes to get our food. The server was actually quite rude about boxing it up. We were late to a meeting because of it, and didn't get to eat until mid-afternoon. But like I said, the sushi was good, so I let it go and gave them four stars. Last night, we had both strangeness AND poor sushi. Before the server even said "Hello," she asked if my friends and I were using a Groupon (it expires in a few days). We told her yes, then chose several rolls, most of which happened to not be part of the 30% off standing special. When taking our order, she informed me that I could either use the Groupon or get 30% off the two discounted rolls. I had more than enough regularly priced rolls to cover the $24, so I wasn't even using the voucher for discounted items, which I explained. She told me they were expecting a lot of Groupon users and decided to change their policy for a few days, charging full price for regularly discounted items until the vouchers expired. People who used vouchers prior to this weekend had no such stipulations. As far as I know, Groupon did not force them to sign up. Tip: If you don't want to honor the vouchers, don't do your marketing that way. Second tip: If you're changing your regular pricing, tell people up-front, or better yet, don't tell people you're charging more because they didn't use their voucher sooner! Third tip: Have good sushi. IF the sushi had been stellar, I probably would have been appeased to some extent. It wasn't. The rice was overcooked and gooey, pieces were very small (significantly smaller than in my previous visit) and non-rice ingredients were so sparse, I couldn't tell which type of roll I was eating. If you like bland, white goo-covered seaweed, you would have been in heaven. If this experience had been good, we would have gone back. I bought the Groupon hoping to redeem my first experience and be able to add this place to our list of regulars. When half the topic of conversation is the better sushi places in the area, you can bet we'll be going to those places instead.

it's not bad nor is it particularly good. i tried the udon.. which was fine. i also tried their cali roll that somehow they managed to mess up. it was one of the worst cali rolls i've tried. was all the food bad? no.. some was ok but i don't see myself having a reason to come back

This place is a joke! My son ordered the chicken yakisoba, chicken was burnt and dry and the noodles smelt and tasted sour. We ended up ordering teriyaki chicken and a side order of rice. The teriyaki sauce was gross! I ordered the spicy ramen and to my surprise these were the $.95 top ramen noodles with mushroom and imitation crab. UNBELIEVABLE!! Sushi was ok however pieces would fall apart when you go to pick it up. Not a good experience, I'm still in shock I actually got charged for the yakisoba! Whatever that was their tip.

I placed an order from this place through delivered dish and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever had. It was so bad that none of us even ate any more of the food after trying at least one of each (mainly because we were starving and hoping to find something that was edible). All of the food that should have been, at the very least, warm were cold and tasted like they pulled it off the conveyer belt instead of making them fresh. I've never had california rolls that I found inedible, but this batch definitely was. All of the rice was undercooked and too sticky making the texture unbearable. Everything lacked taste, as well. It tasted like everything they used was taken out of a freezer or were store bought and ready made, which is not what I want when getting sushi from a restaurant. I don't know what this place is like when actually dining in. I suppose that the food may be better when prepared fresh. However, I definitely will not be eating sushi from Umi again.

Nice sushi bar, great quality, large rolls, Alias the sushi maestro is skilled, and fun to talk to, The Owner is a bit cold at first and scenic but fun once he warms up. The food is a bit on the expansive side , the quality is there and the portions larger. they do groupons, and a good selection of sake and drinks of the sorts. I sit at the bar it is more fun.....to talk with alias and the owner, FIVE STARS for the bar talk, all about people and every one is unique... four stars for the food, 3 stars for the price

I am not a sushi snob. I've been known to get excited over blasphemous sushi (as in those super "creative" rolls with lots of mayo and other ingredients drizzled on top) Sure, I appreciate the tradition and technique that goes into preparation of ingredients, slicing fish and all but most of the time I am simply craving some raw fish because I am hungry. All that matters to me is that if the fish is fresh tasting, the salmon nice and buttery then I'm happy. That said, I love sushi and would eat it all the time but now living in Oregon, I haven't really eaten it here and since I happened to be in this area for some reason, I decided on this place versus the Thai place next door or the Olive Garden across the street. Service was great and the menu had lots of speciality rolls. For the sake of being in Oregon now, I ordered the Oregon Roll (as a California transplant, I've always wondered if such a thing existed!) which is pretty much a CA roll but with fresh salmon on top, the soft shell crab roll, spicy tuna hand roll and 2 pieces of amai ebi nigiri and the good thing was that I enjoyed all of them...except for the edamame that was given to us as we waited for our sushi---I didn't eat it because I was saving my stomach for some raw fish action. Will I go back? Sure, why not!

Way too much cream cheese to make rolls seem more full, $7 glass of red wine came in a half full port wine glass and one of our rolls had heated canned tuna!!! Will NEVER go back!!

We tried this once and won't go back. We ordered some takeout sushi rolls on Sat night. The Sushi chef was inattentive as he chatted with diners. As a result, the rolls were sloppy and didn't hold together. The fish was flavorless. We were sent out with one pair of chopsticks and four little soy sauce packets. I was hoping for better since they sit next to our favorite Thai restaurant, but this place made no effort to attract new customers, perhaps because the cater to local hotels & aren't concerned with return business. Very disappointing.

I've become a regular. Sushi is fresh and Josh prepares the best spicy tuna hand roll I ever had. The kruse roll is also a good choice. The staff is very friendly, they greet you as you come in and as you leave.

Great tasting sushi at a reasonable price. Nice presentations, excellent and friendly service. Plenty of parking in the strip mall it is in and easy to get to from the interstate. Recommend if you are in the area and have a hankering for sushi.

Went in 6 minutes after opening hour so the server was efficient and very kind. I ordered yellow tail and another sushi roll. Both very good I just wished the rice didn't fall apart so easily. But it was good enough for me. I'll have to come back and order the better stuff on the menu.

We have been so pleased with the great food and service these guys provide - really great miso soup, the teriyaki bento with tempura is awesome...even when I ordered the wrong dish we were delighted with what we got! Nice saki selection, beer limited but hey...its ice cold and compliments the cuisine perfectly. Not cheap, but when you're dealing with raw fish, do you really want cheap? No, no, no. Good value for delicious food.

Good, friendly, fast service. Sushi was not the best I have had and, as such, I felt the prices were a little high. It is close to home and work, though, so accessibility is a plus. Pretty impressive sake selection.

I had a great dinner here! Nothing fancy but I would for sure recommend their sushi to others. I was in town on business and staying at a near by hotel & thought I would check it out. Shrimp shumai is a MUST! Delish! I also got the tuna tataki app and it was very fresh & light with lemon & ponzu & you get a ton! My only complaint is the spicy salmon wasn't very spicy at all. The staff was very friendly & the sushi chef was nice & knows his stuff! I love sushi and I will be back next time I'm in Portland.

I really liked this place! The decor is all cute making the small space seem cozy. I'm really fond of the origami paper lamps. The service was great and the food better. I actually liked the gyoza and I usually never do. I had the Chicken Teriyaki bento and whatever I didn't eat my roommates grabbed immeadiatly.

Not terrible, but not great either. Came here for lunch... Put in an order for spicy tuna roll and miso. Soup came fast, but tasted weak. Sushi took 20 minutes to come. Spicy tuna roll was NOT spicy :( Decent, but not great. Probably won't come again unless I have an insatiable craving for japanese.

Hit or miss is not a ringing endorsement of a sushi restaurant, but when they get it right it is wonderful. This restaurant is a favorite of some of my non-Yelp friends. I've tried to share their enthusiasm, but after three visits for lunch, they still haven't put it all together. So it isn't one of my top picks in the area. While I'm struggling between three and four stars, what tips the balance in their favor is their twice daily early bird special. This is not your discount sushi track restaurant, so I'm really happy to get a price break on part of their menu when I arrive early for lunch (11 - 11:45a) or dinner (5 - 5:45p), Monday - Friday. I've ordered about ten different rolls and by far my favorite is the spicy salmon roll. It never lets me down. The other items have been fine and in one case (shrimp tempura roll) it was a true disappointment. On my first visit, a friend and I ordered a lot of different items and the wait was excessive. My second visit was also on the slow side, but my visit today was very fast. Again, not a sushi track, so factor in some additional time since they make all their rolls to order. Certainly worth checking out and I'll be back again whenever my sushi craving hits early.

Really slow service during lunch, granted, it was pretty packed & they were understaffed. If you're looking for a quick lunch stop, probably not the best place to go. I got the bento combo (sashimi & tempura). Was not really impressed with the 3 slices of salmon & 3 slices of tuna. I've gotten the tonkatsu before & that was pretty good. Not one of my top places to go for sushi, but it's close to my work, so if I have 90mins to spare, I'd probably go again.

I went here with friends for lunch the other day. Very tasty rolls and sashimi though their sashimi plate seems a touch high for what it did come with compared with other sushi places I go to - not a huge amount but noticeable. We tried a variety of the rolls and they were all pretty amazing. I think our only possible complaint was that the service was a touch slow and that was with not a lot of people in the restaurant so be patient when you eat here. For an area that has very few choices for sushi this is a very good one though.

Great Lunch Spot! They seat you quickly, get your food to you fast and you can be on your way! The fish is fresh and the waitstaff and chef's are friendly. We had the Deluxe Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Roll and Edamame, all were very good.

Hate to hate on a small mom and pop establishment, but hear me out... It's small. It's Lake Oswego and it's one of the few sushi restaurants in this area where sushi doesn't come out on a boat. I understand that. But it gets insanely busy and they sometimes just forget about you. It takes awhile for food to come, for water to get filled, or even your bill to get paid. The sushi is mediocre. It wasn't terrible. It wasn't great. It wasn't cheap. The rolls were dry, the sushi was ok. The bento boxes were horrible. I've never had such terrible steak terriyaki.

Very disappointing experience today after an initial good experience. Ordered Udon to go, and it was awful. Ended up throwing it out and getting food elsewhere. The lady who took our order was very scattered even though there were two other people there.

I was on a business trip to Portland and this restaurant was conveniently located next to my hotel. The staff was very friendly and after the first visit the people there knew my name. The food was delicious as the fish very fresh. I've had the beef, and chicken bento boxes and a few of the rolls. Everything was reasonably priced for the amount and quality of their dishes. I would definitely recommend this place.

If you like Sushi then you have to eat at Umi . The food is amazing. Always the freshest and always served beautifully. I know everyone has a favorite Sushi bar and this is mine but if you try Umi you will agree it is one of the very best.

3.5 STARS GREAT NIGIRI I've been eating sushi since I was kid. I grew up in Torrance, California (a haven for Japanese cuisine), so when my parents were feenin' for something raw, they had their go-to place in the neighborhood. The employees always knew us and predicted my father's order. Umi Sushi seems to remind me of the Japanese restaurant I grew up eating at. Many of the diners there seemed to be regulars. The place seems a bit "Americanized", but they do have some of their traditional items on the menu. [decor] Seems like a clean mom-and-pop shop. Walls were decorated with Japanese artwork and fixtures. It's not that fancy. Pretty casual. [devour] *NIGIRI (**4 STARS**) -Uni (sea urchin) - $4.95 for two pieces -Smoked Salmon - market price -Unagi (eel) - $4.95 for two pieces (my personal fave) -Saba (mackerel) -$3.95 for two pieces All of nigiri pieces that we had ordered were like BUTTER. The pieces were sliced to an appropriate size (great knife skills!) The fish was definitely fresh and totally sushi-grade. Prices may be a bit steep for some people, but I think you're paying for the quality of the fish you're consuming. The sushi rice was decent, but I had better elsewhere. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/umi-… ) *COMBINATION ($12.25 - Dinner; **3 STARS**) Pick 2 of the following: Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, Tempura, Sashimi or Sushi. I opted for CHICKEN TERIYAKI and SASHIMI. This deal comes with a bowl of white rice and a side of potato salad (but it was more like mash potatoes). I'm not sure why there was mash on my dish. It made my order seem "Americanized" when I'm eating at a "Japanese" restaurant (just sayin'). My chicken was a cooked so-so. But I could tell the teriyaki sauce just came out of a bottle (I got the same stuff at home!) I had 6 pieces of sashimi (2 of the following: tuna, salmon and red snapper) The portion was appropriate and I was full, but perhaps I was full because I ate a couple pieces of nigiri prior to my meal. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/umi-… ) FYI = -Family owned restaurant -Eye candy sushi chefs -About a mile away from the 5 & 217 freeway intersection -Near Stanfords and other independent restaurants -Shared parking lot in strip mall If I was in the area, I wouldn't mind coming back here. But I wouldn't trek all the way from Portland or wherever you are from to check this place out. It's convenient for something decent in the Lake Oswego neighborhood. If I were to be back, I wouldn't order any of the plate combos, bento boxes or rolls. I'd just do straight up sashimi or nigiri. Yelp 2013 100+ Reviews Challenge (going for 200!) - Review #132

This is hands down the best Sushi place i have ever gone to since i have moved to Portland. The people are really friendly, the place is always clean, the fish is always fresh. YUM! We stopped trying other places because nothing is as good as there sushi! our favorite roll is the winter roll. its a deep fried California roll with sweet eel, and spicy mustard sauce. OMG YUM! and its huge! If i go for lunch by my self that's all i get. there is no room for anything else. ha ha! all the other rolls are good too, in fact every thing we have had has been fantastic! you will see the owner behind the counter making sushi with his employees, very friendly and has a great memory. he has even picked up on our conversation close to where we left off even if its been over a month since i have been in. wonderful service! They do get busy, so my best recommendation is to sit at the sushi bar if your in a hurry. family friendly, best deal on the big rolls, and delicious!

You get what you pay for with Sushi. This place might be a bit more on the expensive side, but the taste and value is is worth every penny.

The service here is always about as fast as OR-217 on a weekday afternoon, but it was especially terrible the last time I came here with my co-workers. We had a group of six, but the place is quite small, so we split ourselves up apart from each other in groups of 2 and 4. The group of 4 was served first and informed the waitress that they would like to split the check 4 ways. She made a very big deal about it, made claims that it would cause their [already slow] service to be slower, and generally had a terrible attitude about the whole thing. You would think this would be a common request seeing how they're surrounded by office parks. I'm sorry, but while McMenamins is still the reigning World Cup Champion of Slow Service, even they can split a check 20 ways for a large group without berating the customers. This was a table of 4. When the check was brought out, it wasn't split and the waitress begrudgingly got out the calculator right there at the table. One of my co-workers opted to pay for everyone just so they could get out there. The food is good, the price is average, and despite how convenient the location is for me, I won't be coming here...especially since my other co-workers are boycotting the place and there are plenty of other and better alternatives around. Food: 4 Service: 0 Ambiance: 3 Value: 3 TL;DR: Decent food if you're not in a hurry and don't need to split checks.
